This hotel was clean and conveniently located but that's about it. The room was smaller than the photo we saw online, there were no king beds available, the hallways and stairwell needed a new coat of paint, the room doors rose about 1/2 inch from the floor letting you know that better quality carpet had been replaced by a thinner one, and letting in any noise from outside the door, our bed had broken springs on one side, the breakfast area was small so there was no room for us to sit (the food was basic, so we ended up going someplace else to eat), and the front desk staff, although polite, did not know much about directing us places, except the center of town.

I walked into the hotel early and was told the room was not ready till 4...ok fine, we r gonna go to bush gardens for the day and be back at about 10:30 tonight, ""yea sure your room will be ready when you get back"" . So i go to Bush Gardens all day and enjoy without worries cause i have reservations. When i returned, the man at the front desk was instantly mad at me because of the low rate i had got here at the online travel agency, said i was not gonna stay there that night and i would need to callthe online travel agency to get them to give him some sort of ""credit"". He was extremely rude to me for no reason. I had my reservation made fair and square and he did not honor that. After an hour of arguing he gave in and said i could finaly stay. This is not the type of service you give to someone with a reservation and has had a very long day and just wants to shower and go to bed. It was HORRIBLE needless to say.

THE FIRST NIGHT WE GOT THERE A LITTLE LATE AND WENT TO OUR ROOM. WE WANTED TO TAKE A SHOWER BUT FOUND IT DID NOT WORK. I TOLD THE FRONT DESK AND THEY SAID THAT IT WOULD BE FIXED THE NEXT MORNING. AFTER BEING OUT ALL DAY WE RETURNED TO FIND THE SHOWER STILL HAD NOT BEEN FIXED. I WENT TO THE FRONT DESK AND TALKED WITH THE MANAGER AND HE SAID THERE WAS SOMEONE THERE TO FIX IT THEN THIS WAS 10:20 P.M. THE REPAIRMAN DID FIX THE SHOWER BEFORE HE LEFT BUT WHEN WE WENT TO SHOWER IT BROKE AGAIN. WE WERE THERE 3 DAYS BEFORE THING WERE WORKING. THE POOL DID NOT HAVE ANY COLORINE AND THE HOT TUB THE WATER WAS BROWN. ALSO AT 11:00 P.M. THE LIGHTS WENT OUT WITH NO WARNING AND THERE WERE STILL SMALL CHILDREN IN THE POOL YELLING FOR THEREW PARENTS. AND THE MANAGEMENT DID NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT SMALL CHILDREN WITH NO SIWN SUITS ON. THERE THINGS THAT ARE LISTED ON WHAT YOU WILL HAVE IN YOUR ROOM GUESS WHAT YOU WONT GET THEM. I DID CALL TRAVEL ONLINE NA DTHEY DID GET US ANOTHER ROOM. THERE IS NO WAY YOU COULD GET US TO EVER STAY THERE AGAIN

Booked the room because of the advertised indoor pool and spa for a December getaway. After checking in and taking all belongings to the room we decided to check out the pool. Only then did we discover that the pool had been closed by the health department! Failed to mention this when I booked the room or when I checked in. They did offer to cancel the reservation and have us go elsewhere but the "refund" would take 30 business days. Glad there was no restaurant here. Knowing that the health department closed the pool and spa sure made the free breakfast sound appealing.

The price was right and location is perfect. Howard Johnson was only a block away from the historic district. Once we got our passes, all we had to do was walk on in each day. Big sign on the hotel was 'hot breakfast' with room stay. I guess I expected maybe some pancakes or eggs or some other kind of protein. The only hot dish was the make your own waffles. That was fine, but I woldn't advertise a hot breakfast with the waffle iron. There was also cereal, toast, bagels, and some fruit. Coffee was served all day but my only gripe there was they only let us have cofee creamer during the morning breakfast rush. Pool and hot tub was great, although crowded. The towles provided at the pool were a nice touch. I asked for a non-smoking room. The sign on the door said non-smoking but the smell of the room was evident that previous guests had been smoking. I was traveling alone with my 2 daughters so security was very important to me. I felt safe in the room, but the long dim hallway to the elevators made me a little nervous. It was an older hotel so the carpet was a little worn but it didn't seem to be dirty in the room. The computer in the lobby was a nice touch to check email and get directions and maps. There no quick resturaunts in the immediate area that I could see, but if you drive a couple miles to Bypass Road, there is plenty to choose from. In conclusion, if you are looking for an inexpensive hotel close to the historic district and don't want anything but waffles and cereal in the morning, this is the perfect hotel.
